Among the earliest blooming trees, often flowering in late winter. Fast-growing, usually found growing in open sunlight along creeks and waterways. Limbs highly susceptible to wind and ice damage. Winged, paired seeds, called samaras, spin to the ground like tiny helicopters. MADBUCK (Maple, Ash, Dogwood, and Buckeye) mnemonic useful for remembering Ohio's four native trees with opposite leaves/branching.
